							<title><![CDATA[ELL Student Shadowing]]></title>
							<description><![CDATA[<strong>Event Date(s):</strong> May 13, 2010 - May 14, 2010<br \><span style="font-weight: bold;">Create awareness and urgency around implementing best instructional practices to close the achievement gap with ELLs, including the role of oral language development and active listening. Participants will be introduced to an assessment tool developed to gauge academic language development. </span>

<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">The goals of the training are to</span>:<br /></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Conduct a hands-on demonstration for participants on the use of the student shadowing protocol (providing them with sample materials to take home).</li>
<li>Provide current research on the development of academic language, linked to the recent requirements of NCLB Titles I and III.</li>
<li>Discuss the findings from the use of the protocol in a variety of districts in California, and their relationships to professional development for district and site administrators and school staff.</li>
<li>Consider adaptations or modifications of the protocol for other district use with ELL students.</li>
